Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with sword clasp, the obverse with a raised leftward facing profile of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of DEM VERDIENSTE 1914 (FOR MERIT 1914), within an oak leaf wreath, unmarked, the
