Charles Doudelet et le symbolisme: Les Portes d'or. Romaine – Gréco-Romaine Gallimard Jeunesse collectionSettled in Ghent (Belgium) in 1877, Charles Doudelet (1861 1938) developed a professional and friendly network around illustrated books, magazines and exhibitions. From 1892, he became a close friend of the writer Maurice Maeterlinck and illustrated his famous Twelve songs (1896). A passionate intellectual inspired by the art of the Middle Ages and the Italian Renaissance, Doudelet is one of those Belgian artists who absolutely must be (re)discovered.
